About TopSPEC® Leptospira qPCR KIT

Leptospira is a Gram-negative, filamentous spirochete belonging to the Leptospira interrogans sensu lato group. It is the causative agent of a serious zoonotic disease affecting dogs and cats, primarily transmitted through water and soil contaminated with the urine of infected reservoir animals such as rodents, livestock, and wildlife. Dogs are highly susceptible to infection through direct contact or ingestion of contaminated water, while cats, although often asymptomatic, may serve as silent carriers and potential reservoirs of the pathogen. The risk of infection is significantly elevated in companion animals residing in humid environments, near rivers or flood-prone areas during the rainy season—especially those that have not received complete vaccination. Early detection plays a critical role in effective disease control and prevention.

TopSPEC ® Leptospira qPCR Kit is a molecular diagnostic assay designed to detect pathogenic Leptospira bacteria in dogs and cats by targeting the lipL32 gene using Real-time PCR technology. Early identification of the pathogen facilitates timely intervention, thereby preventing adverse outcomes associated with Leptospira infection.
