Encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) is a single-stranded RNA virus (ssRNA) belonging to the Cardiovirus genus within the Picornaviridae family. It is known as the primary causative agent of encephalomyocarditis (EMC) in pigs. EMCV can lead to mortality rates of up to 100% in piglets and result in impaired reproductive function and miscarriages in sows. Piglets infected with EMCV often experience myocarditis, encephalitis, and sudden death due to cardiac failure. Therefore, controlling and diagnosing EMCV helps minimize severe economic consequences for the pig farming industry.
TopSPEC® EMCV RT-qPCR KIT is designed to detect the presence of EMCV, specifically targeting the 5’NTR gene, which causes the disease in pigs, using RT-qPCR technology. This kit facilitates rapid EMCV detection with a simple procedure and high sensitivity and specificity.
