About TopSPEC® Streptococcus suis qPCR KIT

Streptococcal disease in pigs is caused by Streptococcus suis which occurs in many parts of the world and leads to significant economic losses. S. suis is a gram-positive bacterium, spherical or oval in shape, and facultative anaerobe. There are 35 serotypes of S. suis that have been identified, among which serotypes 1, 2, 1/2, 3, 7, 9, and 14 are commonly pathogenic in pigs. S. suis type 2 is the most common pathogenic serotype and can be transmitted to humans. The disease is frequently observed in piglets, especially post-weaning. Typical symptoms and lesions of the disease include fever, arthritis, pericarditis, pneumonia, meningitis, septicemia, and sudden death.

TopSPEC® Streptococcus suis qPCR Kit is a testing kit designed to detect the presence of Streptococcus suis – gdh gene – associated with streptococcal infection in pigs using the qPCR technique. The kit utilizes a master mix containing UNG (Uracil-N-Glycosylase), which helps prevent cross-contamination from previous PCR products.
