INTRODUCTION
Hepatitis A virus (HAV) and norovirus (NoV) are the main agents that cause food poisoning in humans. HAV is a virus of the Picornaviridae family that causes hepatitis and Norovirus (norovirus) is a virus of the Caliciviridae family that causes occasional acute gastroenteritis. Currently, there is no conventional method to culture these viruses from food samples, so the currently recommended method is real-time PCR.
