About TopSPEC® FeLV qPCR Kit
Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus classified under the family Retroviridae, genus Gammaretrovirus. It is a common infectious agent within feline populations, transmitted primarily through direct contact with bodily secretions such as saliva, urine, and feces. Transmission frequently occurs when cats groom each other or share food and litter trays. Infected queens may also transmit the virus to their offspring via the placenta or through milk. FeLV induces severe immunosuppression, predisposing affected cats to opportunistic infections, anemia, bone marrow suppression, and lymphoid tumors. If left untreated, persistent infection can result in a mortality rate of up to 80–90% within 3 to 4 years. The virus is not naturally transmissible to dogs, humans, or other species.
TopSPEC ® FeLV qPCR Kit is a testing kit designed to detect the presence of Feline Leukemia virus (FeLV) in cats using Real-time PCR technology by targeting the LTR – U3 gene. Early identification of the pathogen is essential for preventing the adverse clinical outcomes associated with FeLV infection.
