INTRODUCTION
White tail disease (WTD) or white muscle disease (WMD) occurs in giant freshwater shrimp caused by Macrobrachium rosenbergii nodavirus (MrNV) and extra small virus (XSV) . Although MrNV is the main cause of the disease, XSV plays an equally important role. XSV is the first nodavirus-related satellite recorded in animals, and is limited to gill tissue, heart, ovary, and head muscle. Therefore, the disease can spread from shrimp seeds to larvae and even the early stages of juveniles. The mortality rate reaches 100% within 5-6 days from the onset of the disease.
TopSPEC® XSV One-step RT-qPCR Kit is a test kit that detects the presence of extra small virus (XSV) in the culture environment. Early detection of pathogens helps save costs caused by XSV.
