Vibrio alginolyticus, a halophilic bacterium found in marine and estuarine environments, causes severe soft tissue infections, septicemia, and other extraintestinal infections. The bacterium is primarily transmitted through water or by consuming contaminated seafood, leading to soft tissue and blood infections. Additionally, skin and ear infections are the most common symptoms associated with this bacterium. Most infections are related to water activities.
Diagnosis is made by culturing Vibrio from infected wounds or blood. The process of culturing and detectingVibrio alginolyticus is quite time-consuming, thus nucleic acid testing is also employed as a method to detect this bacterium.
