About TopSENSI ® HSV1-2 multiplex qPCR Kit
Herpes simplexvirus (HSV1-2) is a common herpes virus in humans, belonging to the Herpesviridae family, Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily. Based on the similarity of the core genome and differences in surface antigens (gG1 and gG2) as well as the site of infection, HSV is divided into two main types: HSV type 1 (HSV1) and HSV type 2 (HSV2). The primary mode of transmission is through direct contact with the infected skin sores. HSV1 infections are primarily transmitted through oral sores or saliva, while HSV2 infections are mainly transmitted through unsafe sexual practices. Rare cases of HSV1-2 transmission from mother to child have been recorded, causing neonatal herpes. Additionally, HSV infections can lead to various neurological diseases such as meningitis, encephalitis, neural degeneration, and keratitis.
Most early HSV1-2 infections are asymptomatic, but severe cases show symptoms like sores and blisters around the mouth and genital area. During the initial infection, patients may experience symptoms like fever, body aches, sore throat, headache, and swollen lymph nodes near the infection sites. According to the latest WHO estimates (2016), approximately 3.7 billion people under 50 years old, or 67% of the population, are infected with HSV1 (oral or genital), with most cases acquired in childhood. HSV2 infections affect around 491 million people aged 15-49, accounting for 13% of the global population, with infection rates in women being almost twice as high as in men. Neonatal HSV infections are very rare, estimated at about 10 per 100,000 births worldwide. These cases often result in severe conditions such as long-term neurological disability or death. The primary cause of neonatal infection is mother-to-child transmission.
TopSENSI ® HSV1-2 multiplex qPCR Kit is used to detect the presence of HSV1 and HSV2 DNA in various human samples using real-time PCR technology. The test results of this kit are intended for clinical reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for diagnosis or exclusion.
