Introduction
Microsporidiosis and Infectious Hypodermal and Hematopoietic Necrosis (IHHNV) are common diseases that cause significant losses in aquaculture, especially in shrimp farming.
Microsporidiosis caused by a parasite Enterocytozoon Hepatopenaei (EHP) Shrimp infected with microsporidiosis often exhibit slow growth because the parasite lives in the hepatopancreas and absorbs the shrimp’s nutrients. The disease does not cause mass mortality but still leads to significant economic losses due to reduced production.
Infectious Hypodermal and Hematopoietic Necrosis (IHHN) in shrimp is caused by the Infectious Hypodermal & Hematopoietic Necrosis Virus. Once infected, the virus destroys gland cells, lymphoid cells, and nerve cells, and it can spread both vertically and horizontally. Shrimp often die in large numbers 10-20 days after stocking. Adverse environmental factors combined with the presence of the virus exacerbate the damage significantly.
TopSPEC® IHHNV-EHP qPCR Kit detects the presence of EHP (SWP1 gene) and IHHNV (Capsid protein gene) in shrimp samples using qPCR technology.
