Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) is a common ailment affecting cloven-hoofed animals such as pigs, cattle, horses, and buffaloes. The incubation period ranges from 2 to 8 days. FMDV exhibits a rapid transmission rate, with an infection rate of up to 100%. The disease primarily spreads through respiratory and digestive routes. The virus infiltrates the bloodstream, causing disease development in the mucous membranes of the digestive and respiratory tracts. Clinical manifestations begin with the appearance of vesicles around the hoof and mouth areas. The ruptured vesicles reveal red and subsequently grayish ulcerated regions. Mortality rates range from 5-10% in adult pigs to as high as 50% in piglets.
TopSPEC® FMDV RT-qPCR Kit is a diagnostic kit for detecting the presence of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), targeting the 3D gene, which causes foot-and-mouth disease in pigs, cattle, and other livestock, using One-step RT-qPCR technology. Early detection of the pathogen is essential for preventing the severe consequences associated with FMDV infection.
