INTRODUCTION
Babesiosis is a disease caused by the parasitic activity of Babesia, leading to blood infection in dogs. The disease is transmitted through cross-infection or direct transmission via bites and blood transfusions. The incubation period is typically two weeks, during which there are no discernible signs or symptoms of infection. The Babesia parasite infects and proliferates within red blood cells, resulting in anemia and compromised immune function. Manifestations of the disease in dogs often include reduced appetite, pale gums, fever, jaundice, weight loss, adversely affecting the overall well-being and health of the animal.
TopSPEC® Babesia qPCR Kit is is a diagnostic tool designed to detect the presence of Babesia parasites that cause disease in dogs, using qPCR technology targeting the 18S rRNA gene. Early detection of the pathogen is essential for preventing adverse outcomes associated with Babesia infection.
