About TopSENSI® Vibrio vulnificus qPCR Kit
Vibrio vulnificus is one of the causes of necrotizing fasciitis in humans. Additionally, it causes infections from the consumption of seafood such as shrimp, fish, clams, and especially raw oysters, with an average mortality rate of up to 50%.
The disease presents symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Open wounds infected by V. vulnificus can develop into red, pus-filled sores that progressively enlarge, leading to necrosis. Immunocompromised individuals may exhibit symptoms such as fever, chills, severe hypotension accompanied by shock, and fluid-filled blisters on the skin. This condition is extremely serious, often fatal, and has the highest mortality rate among bacterial foodborne illnesses.
