HCV INTRODUCTION
Hepatitis C virus (DNA) is a virus with a single-stranded RNA genome. HCV can cause hepatitis C, ranging from mild to severe conditions, posing a potential threat to the life of the affected individuals. HCV can be transmitted through blood contact (often due to unsafe injection practices or unscreened blood transfusions), unsafe sexual activities, and from mother to child during childbirth.
As of June 2022, there are approximately 58 million people worldwide living with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, and there are about 1.5 million new infections occurring annually. According to WHO estimates for the year 2019, around 290,000 people died due to hepatitis C, primarily caused by liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (primary liver cancer).
The majority of patients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) have an incubation period ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months, and approximately 80% of those affected do not exhibit any symptoms during the early phase of infection. While more than 95% of individuals with HCV infection can be cured through antiviral medications, the accessibility to diagnosis and treatment for this condition remains relatively low. Therefore, early testing for the detection and quantification of HCV is crucial for the monitoring and management of the disease.
ABT® RNA Quantitative PCR Kit is used for the quantitative detection of the presence of RNA-HBV present in samples extracted from serum/plasma samples by real-time PCR technique.
Using One-step RT-qPCR technology, the kit simplifies, accelerates, and enhances the convenience of HCV diagnosis. Additionally, the standard curve system, constructed from five calibration points, enables accurate quantification of viral RNA. The results obtained from this diagnostic reagent are intended for clinical reference only and must not be used as the sole basis for diagnosis or exclusion of disease.
ADVANTAGES
