About TopSPEC® ASFV/PEDV RT-qPCR Kit

African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) are two highly infectious agents that pose serious threats to global livestock production, causing severe economic losses.

ASFV is a DNA virus belonging to the family Asfarviridae, genus Asfivirus and is associated with mortality rates of up to 100% across all age groups of pigs. In contrast, PEDV is a positive single-stranded RNA (+ssRNA) virus classified within the family Coronavirus, genus Alphacoronavirus. PEDV infection leads to vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, anorexia, and weight loss. The disease is particularly severe in neonatal piglets, with mortality rates reaching 100% when infected with highly virulent strains.

Both viruses spread rapidly through direct contact, contaminated feed, or inadequately disinfected transport vehicles. Early detection is therefore critical for effective control and prevention of outbreaks.

TopSPEC® ASFV/PEDV RT-qPCR Kit enables simultaneous detection of African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) via the Vp72 gene and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) via the N gene, using a one-step RT-qPCR technique. Early identification of these pathogens is essential to minimize economic losses caused by viral infections.
