Introduction TopSPEC® E.coli STEC qPCR Kit
Escherichia coli are gram-negative bacteria that are commensal microorganisms in the human gut. However, certain strains of E. coli can cause intestinal and extraintestinal diseases in humans, such as urinary tract infections (UTI), septicemia, and meningitis. Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) are considered enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) or verocytotoxin-producing E. coli (VTEC). They cause diarrhea as well as more severe diseases in humans, such as hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The cause of these syndromes is identified as the Shiga toxins (Stx1 and Stx2) produced by the serotype O157:H7 strain.
The TopSPEC® E.coli STEC qPCR Kit is a screening kit used to detect the presence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) using qPCR technology based on the presence of the Stx1 gene, Stx2 gene, and eaeA gene (also known as eae).
