HBV INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hepatitis B (Hepatitis B Virus<\/em> – HBV<\/a>), is a DNA virus that leads to potentially life-threatening liver infections. It represents a major global public health concern. HBV can cause both acute and chronic disease, significantly increasing the risk of mortality due to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (primary liver cancer). The virus is commonly transmitted from mother to child during childbirth, as well as through exposure to infected blood or other bodily fluids\u2014such as via unprotected sexual contact with an infected partner, unsafe injection practices, or contact with contaminated sharp instruments.<\/p>\n

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 296 million people were living with chronic HBV infection in 2019, with approximately 1.5 million new infections occurring annually. In the same year, HBV-related complications resulted in an estimated 820,000 deaths, primarily due to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.<\/p>\n

The highest burden of HBV infection is observed in the Western Pacific and African regions, with 116 million and 81 million chronically infected individuals, respectively. Additionally, approximately 60 million people are infected in the Eastern Mediterranean region, 18 million in Southeast Asia, 14 million in Europe, and 5 million in the Americas.<\/p>\n

Currently, a safe and effective vaccine is available, offering 98\u2013100% protection against HBV infection. Preventing HBV transmission plays a critical role in reducing the incidence of chronic disease and liver cancer.<\/p>\n

ABT\u00ae DNA Quantitative PCR Kit<\/strong> is a diagnostic assay designed to detect and quantify HBV DNA extracted from serum or plasma samples using Real-time PCR technology. The results obtained from this kit are intended for clinical reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for diagnosis or exclusion of disease.<\/p>\n
