They typically propagate rapidly through the fecal-oral route or via direct contact with respiratory secretions, saliva, or the feces of infected individuals. Upon infection, these viruses cause mucocutaneous lesions in areas such as the oral cavity, palms, soles, buttocks, and knees. Notably, EV71 is frequently associated with severe complications, including neurological pathologies and fatalities. While no specific therapeutic treatment currently exists, vaccines have been developed and implemented for disease prevention.
